Two teenagers have been charged with terrorism-related offences following a thorough investigation by the Metropolitan Police's Counter Terrorism Command, linked to suspected extremist activities.

The Metropolitan Police have charged Rex Clark, 18, from Ilford, and Sofija Vinogradova, 19, from Cheshunt, with the preparation of terrorist acts. Additionally, Ms. Vinogradova faces charges for collecting information likely to be useful in committing or preparing for terrorism. Both individuals have been remanded in custody and are scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court.

The charges are reportedly not connected to recent riots across the country. Ms. Vinogradova was initially arrested on 4 August at her residence in Cheshunt on suspicion of possessing a firearm and collecting information pertinent to terrorism. Following her release on bail, she was re-arrested on 10 August alongside Mr. Clark at another Cheshunt address.

Subsequent searches at the two residences in Cheshunt and Ilford yielded further evidence. Commander Dominic Murphy, head of the Counter Terrorism Command, emphasized the seriousness of the charges while urging the public to refrain from speculation, allowing the legal process to proceed without disruption.

Murphy reassured the public that, at this stage, there appears to be no wider threat stemming from this ongoing investigation, which is distinct from the disturbances that followed the tragic events in Southport.
